
Inheriting a Paris Apartment with an Unmovable Tenant in the Film “My Old Lady”

Playwright Israel Horovitz talks about adapting his play for the screen and directing “My Old Lady.” He’s joined by Kevin Kline, who stars in it. He plays a down-on-his-luck New Yorker who inherits a Parisian apartment from his estranged father. But when he arrives in France to sell it, he discovers tenant living there who will not budge. Mathilde, a feisty Englishwoman (played by Maggie Smith) has lived there with her daughter Chloé (played by Kristin Scott Thomas) for many years. Mathilde unveils a complex labyrinth of secrets that unites the trio in unexpected ways. "My Old Lady" opens September 10 at AMC Lincoln Square, City Cinema 123, Chelsea 9 and the Angelika.
