James Joyce's 'The Dead' Brought to Life Onstage

The Leonard Lopate Show | Dec 20, 2016

Ciarán O’Reilly, director and co-founder of the Irish Repertory Theatre, discusses their new production of “The Dead, 1904,” an adaptation of James Joyce’s short story “The Dead.” He's joined by four-time Tony winner Boyd Gaines, who stars as Gabriel Conroy. The story takes place at a holiday gathering on January 6,1904, the Feast of the Epiphany, in the Dublin home of two elderly sisters, Kate and Julia Morkan, and their niece, Mary Jane. By the end of the evening, Gabriel learns something about his wife that changes how he sees her.

"The Dead" runs through January 7th at the Irish Repertory Theatre. For tickets and more information, visit their website
