In a Jewish Town That’s a ‘Hotbed’ of Anti-Semitism, N.J. Jews and Officials Discuss Ways to Fight Back

A rise in anti-Semitism has prompted Jewish communities across the country to take new measures to protect themselves. In Lakewood, N.J., where about 70,000 Orthodox Jews live in a community that’s faced harassment on the streets and on the internet, a security summit was held to offer Jews ways to fend off threats. Several dozen Orthodox Jews gathered for the summit in the glass-ceiling ballroom of a synagogue, mingling with state officials and security consultants about ways to keep their community safe.
