John M. Cory on the Lincoln Center Library and Museum

The NYPR Archive Collections | Jan 1, 2000

Produced by the New York City Office of Cultural Affairs, Stephen A. Ruddy interviews John M. Cory, Deputy Director of the New York Public Library about the opening of the Lincoln Center Library & Museum.

They discuss resources and services provided by the facility such as this room for rare audio recordings:

"This particular room will be used by scholars who wish to listen to rare materials from the specially air-conditioned recording laboratory in the basement of the library and museum, and they will make their requests known here on the top floor, and the material will be put on by a member of the staff down below and piped in magnificent sound to them for research purposes on the top floor."

They also discuss the different exhibitions and public programs made available in the facility in a dual function. Cory asserts that "This is a fully integrated, completely blended library and museum... You'll never know at any one point whether you're in a museum or a library because it blends both techniques in their most modern application."
