Jon Muq was born and raised in Uganda. When he was 23, he decided to move to the US. His father wasn’t thrilled with the idea - all of which is in the lyrics to his song called “Flying Away From Home.” Muq goes on to say that the things you leave behind still remain a part of you, and his music is a good case in point. From his current home in Austin, Texas, Muq released a debut album called Flying Away, which showcases his personal blend of East African music and Western pop, with songs that draw on reggae, soul, R&B, and more. Jon Muq's journey from Uganda to Austin now includes a stop here in New York on May 8 at Joe’s Pub.
