Jon Ronson on the Surreal Film “Okja”

The New Yorker Radio Hour | Jun 30, 2017

Jon Ronson wrote “The Men Who Stare at Goats,” “The Psychopath Test,” and “So You’ve Been Publicly Shamed.” His first completely fictional project is the Netflix film “Okja,” which he co-wrote with the director Bong Joon-ho. “Okja” follows the story of a kidnapped giant super-pig and the rescue mission undertaken by the animal’s child caretaker. Combining elements of a kid’s movie and a brutal thriller, “Okja” is full of surprises and, as Ronson explains, could never have been made by a typical Hollywood studio.
