Joseph Conrad As A Prophet Of Globalization

The Leonard Lopate Show | Dec 18, 2017

Maya Jasanoff talks about her new book The Dawn Watch: Joseph Conrad in a Global World. Jasanoff examines the forces that shaped Joseph Conrad’s destiny at the dawn of the 20th century including migration, terrorism and the tensions between global capitalism and nationalism. She argues that Conrad was a prophet of globalization, and explains why his life story delivers a history of globalization from the inside out, following his four greatest works—The Secret Agent, Lord Jim, Heart of Darkness, and Nostromo.
