The jazz guitarist Julian Lage was probably doomed to become a musician from the start. When he was 8 he was the topic of the documentary film Jules at 8. He played at the Grammys when he was all of 12. At 15 he went to Stanford. Not as a student – as faculty in their jazz workshop. Now a grizzled veteran at 32, Lage has established himself not just as a musician but as a composer as well, whose works often incorporate the sounds of American folk and blues. Julian Lage and his trio are playing all this week, Tue.-Sun, Jan. 14-19, at the Village Vanguard.Â
