Singer and producer Katie Gately is about to release Loom, an album full of the sounds of her own spectral singing, layers of electronics, and an array of unusual sampled sounds, including the rumble of an earthquake. This single, called “Waltz,” shows how easy it is to turn the genteel 1-2-3 rhythm of the waltz into something vaguely disquieting. But despite letting the darkness into her music, Gately’s sense of melody never abandons her. “Waltz” may be unsettling, but it’s never uninviting. Katie Gately has just released a video for the song and it’s part of our Weekly Music Roundup.
