Wynton Marsalis has called Keyon Harrold “the future of the trumpet” – which is very nice but Harrold seems to be very much a musician of the present. He’s worked with rappers and rockers, like Nas and Keith Richards, and his jazz bona fides were settled when he played Miles Davis’s trumpet parts in the Don Cheadle film Miles Ahead. Harrold is also a producer and a bandleader, whose ensembles tend to reflect his wide-ranging tastes. Trumpeter Keyon Harrold plays two sets per night at the Blue Note, Monday, July 12 through Thursday, July 15.
