WNYC News | Mar 12, 2025

New York City Public Schools are marking Civics Week. Students are focusing on the theme "Democracy Begins Here!" with projects that encourage them to use their voices to advocate for changes in their communities.

As part of the curriculum, students were invited to submit soapbox speeches on issues they care about. Fifth-grader Damon Hudes from PS 384, in Long Island City, Queens, shared how to best support people who have a stutter.
