The Most Powerful American Spy You've Never Heard Of

The Leonard Lopate Show | Sep 29, 2017

Blaine Harden, contributor to The Economist, PBS Frontline, and Foreign Policy, former bureau chief for The Washington Post in East Asia and Africa and best-selling author joins us to discuss his new book, King of Spies: The Dark Reign of America's Spymaster in Korea. He profiles Donald Nichols, a spy who became a key player in the Korean War. Harden looks at how Nichols rose to power from unlikely origins, even creating his own secret army. But, Nichols' work also had a dark side that involved torture and murder.

Blaine Harden will appear at the Korea Society (350 Madison Ave., 24th floor, between W 44th & W 45th St.) at 6 p.m. on Oct. 3.
