Kiran Ahluwalia, Infusing Modern Music With Sufi Mysticism, Performs Live

The Leonard Lopate Show | Feb 19, 2015

Vocalist-composer Kiran Ahluwalia and her band perform live from her new album, Sanata: Stillness. Ahluwalia immersed herself as a child in Indian classical music and ghazal, a song form based on Urdu poetry, and she brings a modern sensibility to her songs of Sufi mysticism and yearning romantic love. She explores new territories to create a synthesis of Indian and Pakistani grooves, Western jazz, and Saharan desert blues.
