Ladaniva – “Je Voulais” (Weekly Music Roundup)

Ladaniva is a duo comprised of Armenian singer Jaklin Baghdasaryan and French instrumentalist Louis Thomas, but the dominant sound in their new single is a kind of Western take on Roma brass band music. The song is called “Je voulais” (or “I wanted”) and there might be a guitar-based French pop song under there somewhere, but with the call-and-response shouts and the swaying funk of the brass instruments, Ladaniva disguises it as a fun, perhaps slightly naughty slice of Balkan folk music. “Je Voulais” by Ladaniva is part of our Weekly Music Roundup.
