Click Mouse; Get Access to 30,000 Free Flicks

Here's another way to cut the cord, thanks to your local library.

Anyone with a card for the New York or Brooklyn public libraries won't need to rely on cable TV to watch more than 30,000 films, documentaries, foreign language films and training videos. Instead they can now use the streaming service Kanopy for free. Included are films from the Criterion Collection, an acclaimed distributor that focuses on art-house titles.

Phil Clark from Long Beach is a fan of films and says the service is a great way for young people to get exposed to classic movies.

“Some kids think a 10-year-old film is old,” he said. “But there are really wonderful films from the silent days and the '30s and '40s. It’s terrific.”

Movies can be streamed to their phones, tablets, computers and smart TVs.

New York Public Library card holders can access 10 films a month (start here) while Brooklyn library card holders can stream six (go here). The Queens library does not offer the service yet, but they say they’re working on it.
