Lindsay press conference [on new construction board]

The NYPR Archive Collections | Jan 1, 2000

New York City Comptroller Abraham D. Beame and Mayor John V. Lindsay announce the creation of a 3-person construction board headed by Municipal Services Administrator Milton Musicus and including Comptroller Beame and Budget Director Edward K. Hamilton. The main goal of the board will be to communicate with construction companies working on city projects to expedite procedures.

Mr. Beame says he looks forward to saving millions of dollars for the city. Mr. Musicus thanks the Mayor and Mr. Beame and says he looks forward to the challenge.

The question and answer session following focuses on the current construction backlog.

[Note: The city would soon have an even bigger construction delay due to union disputes over the hiring of blacks and Puerto Ricans on construction sites].
