The Legacy of Lyric Tenor Roland Hayes Lives On

In his extraordinary life, the lyric tenor Roland Hayes grappled with racial tensions, interracial liaisons, personal scandals and politics, and became the first African American man to reach international fame as a concert performer. On October 4, critically acclaimed baritone Robert Sims will honor Hayes with a concert featuring African American spirituals at the Bruno Walter Auditorium at Lincoln Center. The concert will be followed by a panel discussion, with Christopher A. Brooks and Sims, who collaborated on the biography Roland Hayes: The Legacy of An American Tenor. Brooks and Sims join us to discuss their book and the incredible life of Roland Hayes.
