Study tracks NYPD's illegal parking habits

WNYC News | Apr 13, 2023

A new academic study by Marcel Moran, Ph.D. candidate at U-C Berkeley's Department of City and Regional Planning shows that 70 of the 77 NYPD police precincts had police or personal cars parked on nearby sidewalks or crosswalks. This has been a long known problem covered in media but Marcel offers one of the first systematic studies on the issue.

These cars can block crosswalks, bus lanes and curb ramps. Legally, parking on sidewalks should result in fines.

Marcel talked with WNYC's Sean Carlson about his study.
