Making It Home: Affordable Housing for Artists

Artists say that New York City is the place to be, for inspiration, community, and jobs. The challenge is finding an affordable place to live as well as space to create art. For decades, a handful of subsidized housing complexes provided a foothold for artists and now, the de Blasio Administration plans to build even more. But these complexes have critics who worry the artists’ apartments benefit far too few and can speed up gentrification in some neighborhoods.
