Mali Obomsawin 6tet at Jazz Gallery
Nov. 2. 7:30PM and 9:30PM. $22.50+up

Mali Obomsawin is a Native American bassist, singer and bandleader. They're from a Wabanaki family in New England, and after a spell with the politically-minded folk-rock trio called Lulu Wiles, Obomsawin decided to head in a different direction. Their current project is a band that aims to shine a light on the largely hidden history of Indigenous jazz. The album, Sweet Tooth, features field recordings and vocals in both English and Abenaki; some of their works are based on traditional Wabanaki songs and there are some instrumentals too. Mali Obomsawin and their 6tet play Wed., Nov. 2 at the Jazz Gallery.
