The thingness of books is a sensual experience of sight, smell, and feel. That’s why people obsess over old books, and, apparently, why they steal them. In an interview that first aired in 2009, Brooke talks with Allison Hoover Bartlett, author of The Man Who Loved Books Too Much, about John Gilkey, who stole books because he wanted to be someone who had an impressive library.
