Sax and clarinet player Matt Darriau has been at the forefront of the city’s Klezmer music revival and active on the Balkan music scene for decades.  But his current project is a little different. It’s called Who Is Manny Blanc? Well it turns out that Manny Blanc was a 20^th century musician who made exactly one record, a weirdly wonderful album called Jewish Jazz, in 1961. It blended Jewish melodies, jazz, and the bachelor pad instrumental music known as exotica, into something completely his own. Matt Darriau and his project Who Is Manny Blanc? play Blanc’s so-called Jewish Jazz on Dec. 24 at Barbès in Brooklyn.
