The Vision Festival, now in its 23rd year, is an annual celebration of improvised music, known especially for its offerings of free jazz and the field’s more experimental branch. Friday, May 25, the Festival presents a four-hour event that includes dance and poetry, and culminates in the work of the brilliant, cerebral, and variable pianist Matthew Shipp who unveils a new piece for sextet tonight at Roulette.
