In May of 2019, Mavis Staples celebrated her 80^th birthday with a concert in LA that also featured some of her younger fans, like Brandi Carlile and Ben Harper. Now that concert will be broadcast online on Friday, July 31, as a benefit for the Newport Folk Festival’s educational program. With that festival canceled this summer, like everything else, this concert will be a chance to support a good cause and to celebrate one of the essential voices in American popular music since the late 1950's. The Mavis Staples 80^th birthday concert celebration is offered as an archived stream, July 31, at 8:30PM.
