Mayor Lindsay Announces Partnership with Rand Corporation

The NYPR Archive Collections | Jan 1, 2000

From the Blue Room at City Hall, Mayor Lindsay gives a press conference on a planned partnership between New York City and The Rand Corporation. The mayor describes the Rand Corporation as the "prototype of the think tank," tackling issues such as "urban transportation, heath care, job training, computerized instruction, defense, information centers, and so on." He does not specify what exactly Rand will be working on with the city but suggests, "communication systems, the development of management information and long-range planning and policy development systems as well."

Next President, Henry Rowen, speaks about the Rand Corporation and expresses an "indefinite" commitment with the city. Budget Director, Frederick O'Reilly Hayes, talks about working with Rand to progress on program, policy and budgetary issues. The conference concludes with questions from the press.
