The music of Ethiopian-American singer Meklit draws on soul, funk, New Orleans jazz, and her own Ethiopian heritage too. Last year she released an album called When The People Move, The Music Moves Too. And on it, she teamed up with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band on a song called Memories of the Future. Now, the producer Georgia Anne Muldrow, the daughter of jazz musicians and a noted producer, has done a dance-oriented remix of that song. Meklit plays Friday night, March 2, at the Apollo Theater’s Music Café, and we’re premiering this track as part of our Weekly Music Roundup.
