Min Xiao-Fen is a virtuoso player of the Chinese pipa, a traditional lute; she’s spent years helping to build a modern repertoire for this ancient instrument. Julian Kytasty has done something similar for the Ukrainian bandura, a kind of plucked zither. The two instruments have distinctive sounds, and they blend together with surprising ease on the duo’s new album called “Boundless.” Their unexpected mix of Chinese and Ukrainian instruments takes the stage on Friday, April 17, in a free concert at Lincoln Center’s Rubinstein Atrium.
