Miyamoto Is Black Enough – "Revolver" (Weekly Music Roundup)

In 2015 Arianna Miyamoto won the Miss Universe Japan competition. Controversy erupted because she was half African American, and seen as “not Japanese enough.” I’m telling you this to explain this band’s name: Miyamoto Is Black Enough. It’s a new group based here in New York that combines steel pan, cello, percussion, and the poetry of Roger Bonair-Agard, who tackles themes of discrimination, displacement, and, in this work, the upending of expectations. The whole piece, "Revolver," by the quartet called Miyamoto Is Black Enough, is part of our Weekly Music Roundup.
