As civic culture surrounding gender continues to evolve in the United States, Liza Featherstone, journalist, staff writer at Jacobin, contributing writer to The Nation and author of Divining Desire: Focus Groups and the Culture of Consultation (OR Books, 2017), says progressive voices can better exemplify modern masculinity or American men will lean into Republican messaging on manhood like the narrower ideals of Sen. Josh Hawley.
