Monsieur Periné is a Colombian band whose music incorporates Afro-Colombian rhythms, traditional South American instruments like the charango, a type of small guitar made out of an armadillo shell, and elements of French chanson and even 30s swing jazz. That mix of musical languages is often matched by the sung languages that vocalist Catalina Garcia uses: Monsieur Periné songs can be in Spanish, Portuguese, French, or English. The Colombian band with the French name and a large international following plays on Saturday night, Aug. 6, at Sony Hall.
