Nailah Hunter at Stone Circle Theatre

Nailah Hunter, June McDoom at Stone Circle Theatre
June 19, 8PM. $19.90

The harpist and singer Nailah Hunter is based in L.A., although from her music you might guess she lived in a sacred grove atop a mountain, which L.A. most definitely is not. There is a mystery and a mysticism to Hunter’s music, a deft blend of Afrofuturism, ambient music, and trip hop. This song, “Strange Delights,” is a steadily building piece of electronic art-pop. The synthesizer loop and the deeply-reverbed vocals create an otherworldly sound, but it’s grounded in a beat that becomes slightly more insistent each time it comes around. Nailah Hunter plays on June 19 at the Stone Circle Theatre in Ridgewood.
