A New Canon of Pop Music Featuring All Women

The Brian Lehrer Show | Jul 28, 2017

Ann Powers, NPR Music critic and correspondent, talks about the list she and her NPR and member station colleagues compiled that represents the best 150 albums in popular music - with all women artists, and the reasons why such a list was necessary. From Joni Mitchell, to Lauryn Hill, to Nina Simone, to Amy Winehouse, to Janis Joplin, Powers talks about how female artists haven't gotten the appreciation and recognition they've deserved and also discusses how they compared these various distinct artists to form the list.
