#3747: New Music From South America
For this New Sounds, sample music from Argentina, from Peru, Columbia, and from Brazil. There’s music from Argentinian visual artist and charango player Marina Fages from her 2013 record, “Madeira Metal.” Listen also to music by Chancha via Circuito, the Argentinian DJ and producer who merges Brazilian rhythms, Paraguayan harp, folk flute and guitar, remixing South American folksong with a dub-dance feel.
Then, hear music involving pans, melodic bells, and samples of the Baka Pygmies by Brazilian percussionists Simone Sou & Guilherme Kastrup, together as a duo SouKast, and sometimes as a trio with pianist Benjamim Taubkin. Also, listen to selections from the Rough Guide to Tango Neuvo, music from Afro-Peruvian singer Susana Baca, and something from the Gotan Project, who use electronics and studio magic as they recast the tango. And more.
