New Sounds Live will be at National Sawdust on Oct. 10 to co-present the premiere of Cuban-Chinese artist, composer, and cellist SUUVI’s Dark Therapy—an immersive performance of ambient cello, sound design, and poetic storytelling, created in collaboration with neuroscientists —on World Mental Health Day. Born from a near-death mental health crisis and a diagnosis of complex PTSD, Dark Therapy reflects SUUVI’s deep study of trauma recovery, brain science, and ancient meditation practices—including extended darkness exposure. Developed in collaboration with neuroscientists and consciousness researchers, the eight-part auditory experience is designed to regulate nervous system patterns and evoke altered states of awareness.
The program also features selections of neo- and post-classical compositions, crafting a rich emotional arc that bridges classical tradition with sonic innovation. This world premiere of SUUVI’s Dark Therapy invites the audience into an intimate space of silence, shadow, and sensory healing.
