New York AG Schneiderman Running Again

New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman has officially launched his campaign for re-election.

At a news conference outside City Hall Sunday, the state's 59-year-old chief prosecutor said voters should grant him a second term because of his track record going after Wall Street, AirBnb, and employers of fast-food workers.

"I take on the tough fights to protect everyday New Yorkers" the AG said, "because there has to be one set of rules for everyone. No matter how rich or powerful you may be."

Mayor Bill de Blasio was noticeably absent from the field of Democratic elected officials flanking Schneiderman at the event, but supporters said the mayor is expected to attend future campaign events.

Schneiderman is endorsed by fellow Democrats including New York City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito, Public Advocate Letitia James and Comptroller Scott Stringer.

"This campaign is about making sure our progressive fighter gets the mandate and the victory he needs," Stringer said. "When he has that mandate he’s going to be able to double down on all his great work."

In a recent poll, Schneiderman was leading his Republican opponent, John Cahill, 51 to 29 percent. Cahill is a former Pataki Administration official.

The general election is November 4th.
