Tenor Joseph Calleja On Bellini's 'Norma'

Tenor Joseph Calleja joins us to discuss his role in the Metropolitan Opera’s new production of Bellini’s bel canto tragedy “Norma.” Set in Gaul at the beginning of the Roman occupation, the opera tells the story of a powerful woman named Norma and her unfaithful lover Pollione (Calleja). Sir David McVicar directed the production. He has previously staged all three of Donizetti’s Tudor Queen operas, each starring Radvanovsky, in the 2015-16 season. 

“Norma” runs at the Metropolitan Opera (30 Lincoln Center Plaza) through Dec. 16.
