#ThisIsNotATest. But It is An Assignment.

SchoolBook | Apr 27, 2015

Pencils down. The state tests are over. And however you feel about them — opt out or opt in — we know there are all sorts of other skills and achievements that should get some recognition. Please share them with us.

Here's what you need to do:

1. Think about your child’s or students' skills and accomplishments this school year.

2. Complete one of the sentences below, or come up with your own.

Test me (my child/my student) on ____________________.

OR

This year I (my child/my student) learned to ____________.

3. Write out the sentence on a sheet of paper using a colored marker, crayon or colored pencil.

4. Take a photo of it. Or have your kid hold it up for the photo! (See little Eloise's example up top or other examples below.)

5. Share the photo with us. Post it right to our Facebook page. Email us at schoolbook@wnyc.org. Or tweet it to @schoolbook. Use the hashtag #ThisIsNotATest.

This isn't just for students who take the tests, and it's not just for students — we want to hear from teachers and parents too.

And, just to reiterate, please put aside your opinions about the tests, for now. For this project, we just want you to brag. So have at it, and have fun.

"This year I learned to be careful with things around the classroom," reflected a kindergartener at Yorkville Community School.
