Eleanor Henderson joins us to talk about her new novel The Twelve-Mile Straight. Set in Georgia during the 1930s, the novel begins with two babies who are born on a sharecropper’s farm in Cotton County, one light skinned and one dark skinned. The story tackles themes of racialized violence, social division and financial crisis in the Jim Crow South.

Eleanor Henderson will appear in conversation with "The World of Tomorrow" author Brendan Mathews on Sept. 12 at Books Are Magic (225 Smith St., Brooklyn) at 7:30 p.m.

Note: Jonathan Capehart guest-hosted this segment of "The Leonard Lopate Show."
