#3667: November 2014 New Releases

We gave you an extra day to recover from your Thanksgiving food coma to prepare for John Schaefer's favorite releases from November. We start off with some new music featuring the piano--two contrasting pieces by composer/pianist Tomasz Trzcinski, Philip Glass' Piano Etude #17 performed by Maki Namekawa to celebrate his recently completed 20 etudes, and the "Undine" movement from Anthony Davis' Balinese gamelan inspired "Wayang V," featuring the composer on the piano with the Boston Modern Orchestra Project.

We'll cross over to the other side of the world to hear three trios. Trio Mediaeval, a group of female vocalists based in Norway, performs its new arrangement of the Office of St. Thorlak, the Icelandic saint from the 12th century. Then we'll hear a hypnotic track from a trio called Equilibrium, comprised of a Norwegian vocalist, Belgian clarinetist, and Danish guitarist. Accordion/bass guitar/percussion trio Port Mone is based in Belarus and we'll hear a track from their album "Thou," which they recorded in the middle of a forest.

A gathering of virtuosic clarinetists from Greece, Serbia, Moldavia, Turkey, Switzerland, and Germany make up the Balkan Clarinet Summit, and we'll feature their impressive performance of a Balkan dance. We close this special edition of New Sounds of new releases with a new jazz track by bass guitarist Matt Skellenger and his band.
