NY Voters Assess Candidates Ahead of Democratic Primary

Environmental issues, affordable housing and health care, and police brutality. These are all issues that local voters are considering as they prepare to pick candidates before Thursday's primary.

Travis Boyd, 38, said he's been stopped and profiled by police officers many times throughout his life, making policing a top issue on his checklist.

"I mean, you can't imagine it until you experience it," said the Crown Heights resident and father of two young girls. "It's just crazy." 

Education and childcare are also high on Boyd's list of priorities.

Both Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Cynthia Nixon are running to be the Democratic pick for New York governor in November, against Republican Marc Molinaro. Five Democrats are vying to be the state's next attorney general, and there are several contentious races for Democratic seats in the state legislature.
