NYCHA Tenants Urge NYS to Declare a State of Emergency
Groups representing tenants are asking New York State to declare a state of emergency to address failures in NYCHA's buildings. Jim Walden, lawyer for the City Council of Presidents (the elected leadership of NYCHA tenants) and Danny Barber, Citywide Council of Presidents chair, discuss this and their lawsuit against the housing authority. Plus: City Council member and chair of the New York City Council Housing and Buildings Committee, Robert Cornegy, Jr. (D-district 36, Bedford-Stuyvesant and northern Crown Heights), weighs in on the problems at NYCHA.
@JimWaldenEsq + the Citywide Council of Presidents chair (representing @NYCHA tenants) Danny Barber (r) are in the studio; @RobertCornegyJr is on the phone -- he points out he represents 21 housing developments in his district (Bed-Stuy + northern Crown Heights): pic.twitter.com/puLM9Mg0Xa

Brian asks if the problems at @NYCHA are a management or a money problem? Danny Barber: "It's both." And says "the lowest bid isn't always the best bid."

@JimWaldenEsq says if the state of emergency is declared, money could be allocated to get someone in to fix these problems. Tenants need long-term solutions + short-term solutions -- but right now, they really need heat + hot water.
