This Time, a Prominent Woman Is Accused of Sexually Harassing a Man

New York University has suspended a prominent literature professor on its faculty for the coming academic year after finding her responsible for sexually harassing a male student. The New York Times reported the 11-month-long investigation found that Prof. Avital Ronell sent the student a series of sexually suggestive emails, though it did not substantiate claims that she had groped or kissed the man or forced him to share a bed with her. Ronell denies the allegations.

The sexual harassment scandal surrounding the feminist scholar is an anomaly in the #MeToo movement. But Rick Rossein a professor at the CUNY School of Law who specializes in sex discrimination cases, told WNYC that it isn't surprising to hear about a complaint against a female professor.

"It's not common but it's not unusual," Rossein said. "I'm seeing more cases where men are making allegations against women both at the university level and also the workplace."
