Oddisee & Good Compny at City Winery
July 23. 8PM. $30-$55.

The rapper Oddisee comes from the Washington DC scene, but he is based now in Brooklyn. He is known for a couple of things – smart, socially-conscious, often thought-provoking lyrics, and playing with a live band, the group known as Good Compny. Born Amir Elkhalifa, Oddisee comes from a Sudanese-American family and on a recent track called “Thankful For,” he raps over a handclapped rhythm borrowed from the Gnawa musicians of Morocco.  It’s a song with a clear, direct message: when times are tough, find things to be grateful for. Oddisee & Good Compny play July 23 at City Winery.
