New Sounds Live : Pamela Z & D-Composed at Kaufman Music Center's Merkin Hall
Thurs., April 4. 7:30PM. $30.

Pamela Z is a composer, vocalist, and multimedia artist who uses loops and electronics to create entire sonic tapestries out of her voice, whether spoken or sung, wordless or with text, operatic or abstract. She often performs solo, but on those occasions where she teams up with a band, her music tends to tell a story. For the New Sounds Live concert on April 4, D-Composed and Pamela Z perform music by Pamela Z and the Grammy-nominated composer, flutist and vocalist Nathalie Joachim. The program features the world premiere of a new version of Joachim’s In Between written for D-Composed and Pamela Z.

Pamela Z is a composer/performer and media artist working with voice, live electronic processing, sampled sound, and video. A pioneer of live digital looping techniques, she processes her voice in real time to create dense, complex sonic layers. Her solo works combine experimental extended vocal techniques, operatic bel canto, found objects, text, and sampled concrète sounds.

D-Composed is a Chicago-based Black chamber music collective that celebrates Black culture and creativity through the music of Black composers. Their aim is to make classical music experiences inclusive and reflective of the Black experience by intentionally creating experiences that meet the community where they are.
