Although the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists has so far only been able to identify 211 people with US addresses in the Panama Papers, the US has been involved in Panama's offshore banking industry since the country's inception. Brooke talks to Noel Maurer, co-author of the book The Big Ditch: How America Took, Built, Ran, and Ultimately Gave Away the Panama Canal, about how US corporate and political interests aligned to create the perfect conditions for the Panamanian offshore banking industry to flourish.
