The ensemble Parthenia specializes in consort music of the Renaissance and Baroque. Their instruments are mostly viols, which look like violins or cellos except they have frets. These instruments went out of fashion in the 18th century, but some 21st century composers have started writing for them again, like Kristin Norderval, who has written an electro song cycle based on poems by Queen Elizabeth I.
On March 13, Parthenia plays another new work for their old instruments by Martin Kennedy, as well as a host of works from 16th century Venice, featuring the vocalist Ryland Angel.
