Police Arrest Rapper Bobby Shmurda, 14 Others on Murder, Assault

The NYPD arrested an up-and-coming rap star was arrested outside of a Manhattan recording studio on gun and narcotics charges. 20-year-old Bobby Shmurda and 14 others were charged with murder, assault, conspiracy, as well as weapons and narcotics crimes. A judge ordered him held on $2 million bail. Police said those arrested are part of a violent street gang active in the Canarsie and Flatbush sections of Brooklyn.

"This gang, the "G Stone Crips" or GS9 as they call themselves, has gloated about murder shootings and drug dealing with YouTube videos and vile dance moves," said NYPD police commissioner Bill Bratton.

Eight of the defendants were arrested outside of the Quad Recording Studios in Manhattan. Police said they recovered guns from inside a bag in a studio stairwell.

Police seized 21 guns during the course of the long term investigation. The gang members allegedly funded their weapons cache with money made from sales of narcotics, including cocaine.

Shmurda is best known for the hit song "Hot Boy." He's appeared on numerous television shows and is popular for creating a dance move called the "Shmoney dance." His real name is Ackquille Pollard.
