The Leonard Lopate Show | Jun 23, 2017

Brett Murphy, an investigative reporter with the USA TODAY Network discusses his yearlong investigation for the paper: “Rigged.” It looks at how port truckers are being locked into debt and essentially treated as indentured servants. It also reveals how port trucking companies in southern California have forced drivers to finance their own trucks by taking on debt, and often forced drivers to work against their will, breaking federal safety laws by threatening to seize their trucks and money.
