#3727: Post-Minimalist Piano Works

Listen to the latest record, “The Clearing,” from Kentucky-based pianist, composer, arranger Rachel Grimes, whose name might sound familiar, as she was the keyboardist with the late Jason Noble’s post-rock ensemble Rachel’s. On “The Clearing,” she picks up where that group left off, using textures of strings, harp, piano, woodwinds, and percussion to create electro-acoustic chamber-rock. In fact, her old Rachel’s bandmate, Christian Fredrickson, appears on the record, in addition to various other guests like Kyle Crabtree (Shipping News), Loscil (Scott Morgan) and Jacob Duncan (Liberation Prophecy.) Also, hear keyboard-driven music from English-born, Holland-based Kate Moore, featuring pianist Saskia Lankhoorn. Then, listen to music for two pianos from Amanda Harberg, performed by “Powerhouse Pianists” Stephen Gosling and Blair McMillen. Plus, keyboard music from gifted English guitarist James Blackshaw, and more.
