PRISM Quartet with Susie Ibarra and Tyshawn Sorey
at Christ & St. Stephen's Church, Sunday, June 3
Tickets: $17-22. Show at 3PM.
The PRISM (Saxophone) Quartet has spent the last quarter century building up a repertoire of music for their family of saxes, often incorporating other instruments. One of their projects is called "Color Theory," in which composers use color as an analogy or an inspiration for the sounds they create. In an unprecedented collaboration, percussionist/composers Susie Ibarra and Tyshawn Sorey and the PRISM Quartet join forces in a program exploring musical color by combining saxes and percussion with newly commissioned works. (Previous collaborations in the collaborative series were with So Percussion and composer Steve Mackey, among others.)
On Sunday afternoon, June 3, PRISM unveils two new color theory works by Susie Ibarra and Tyshawn Sorey, at Christ & St. Stephen’s Church. Also on the program are newly commissioned works by Elizabeth Hoffman, and Max Chung. Plus music by Robert Capanna.
